Autism Awareness Nails!

Sorry about the bad cell phone picture, my Canon has been acting up lately.

April is Autism Awareness Month; doing gel nails is more of a hobby for me than it is my full time job. I am a full time University student and I work as a behavioural therapist with four young boys all with autism spectrum disorder. I have been working with children with ASD for four or five years now and I love it. I love the boys I work with, they are each amazing, talented, kind individuals.

Originally I wanted to have the letters A-U-T     I-S-M on the puzzle pieces, but at the same time, I feel that labeling autism and those with autism can be unfair. Instead I just used the symbolic puzzle pieces, and will explain to those that puzzle pieces are symbolic of autism awareness.

Working with Acrylic Paints - Tatty Bear and Flowers

I've been wanting to start using acrylic paints for designs on my nails for quite some time now, and I'm finally getting the opportunity to practice on myself and some brave clients.

I love working with the paints, and I think I will be able to use them much more extensively in the future. Below are two of my best painting experiences: The tatty bear I actually just did this morning on one of my thumb nails, and I'm in LOVE with it, so cute!

Below that one are some one stroke flowers a client let me practice painting on her for her Cuba trip. I think they look quite beautiful for my first attempt on gel nails.

So excited about expanding these new skills in the future! Hope you like the designs, leave any ideas in the comments!!

The Beginning of Christmas Nails!

Below are my sisters new nails! She actually chose a couple of her own nailpolishes to use for these nails. I used Amore Primary White, a bit of Go Green and some Red Glitter as well :)

This is a new client! She asked for the dangle Jingle Bells, I love them!

These next pictures are my first set of Christmas Nails, the pictures are always a little worse quality, it's hard to hold the camera with one hand to take pictures of the other!

This Hand is all glitter and snowflakes!

On this hand: The Pinky is Rudolph, done with brow flocking powder; the Ring finger is all red Flocking Powder (wanted to see how long it would last, which was  about two days, now it's a green present with pink striping tape); the Middle finger is a snow man!; my Index finger is red on red, trying out my new gold nail decals; and my Thumb (my favourite), I cut up red and green gift wrap, and embedded it into the gel! The picture just doesn't do them justice :(

September 8th, 2012 - Autumn Tree's

I saw some similar nails to this on pinteret (http://pinterest.com/pin/200269514650455061/) . My sister saw them, and asked if we could do something similar! So we tried a similar design, but with crushed sea shells :)
